Remembering Charles E. Stewart, LLB


On Saturday 5th November 2022, family members, friends, former colleagues and members of Ards 41 Club gathered in Royal Belfast Golf Club to remember and celebrate the life of the late Charles E. Stewart LLB.


Charles, who died 23rd May 2022, was Senior Partner of Stewarts Solicitors, Newtownards, Co Down; a Past-Chairman 1983/84 of Newtownards & District Round Table No.917 RTBI and esteemed member of Ards 41 Club 1986/2022.


Charles was remembered by all who attended the Charity Luncheon as a loyal friend and wise counsellor, a man with tremendous zest for life and a love of family, rugby, cars and good fun; a man who actively sought to make a difference to the lives of others and who, throughout his lengthy illness, provided endless inspiration to all who knew him.


In addition to a legal career spanning over 50 years Charles was also remembered as a Rotarian, a Round Tabler, a Rugby Player, a Rugby Referee, a Tennis Player and a life long member of Royal Belfast Golf Club,


Proceeds from the Charity Luncheon & Auction were donated by Ards 41 Club to the Northern Ireland Pancreatic Cancer Charity (NIPANC).

In accepting a cheque for £14,272 from Jane-Mary Stewart, NIPANC Chairman Ivan McMinn MBE thanked 41 Club Chairman, Colin McMullan and the organising team of Ards 41 Club members and said;

“This day we remembered and collectively demonstrated our admiration of Charles in how he led his life and dealt with his illness and as a result have enabled NIPANC to fund further research into earlier detection of pancreatic cancer and improved treatment of the disease; that will be Charles’s enduring legacy”

In response 41 Club Chairman Colin McMullan said that Ards 41 Club were priviliged to host the event, in association with We’re Sure - Motor, Home & Business Insurance and Stewarts Solicitors and to honour Charles’s memory in such an appropriate and practical manner.
